The red folder can quickly guide school staff in responding appropriately to a student experiencing distress, based on student behavior and suggested school protocols. Modeled after the University of California and California State Universities’ “Red Folder” initiative, it creates a quick reference guide to mental health resources for teachers and staff that is customized to your own school or district.

Green Folder Initiative
The Green Folder Initiative, originally created by the Sequoia Union High School District, is an adapted secondary school version of the University of California’s Red Folder Initiative. The Green Folder includes customizable protocol and resource pages for faculty and staff to quickly guide school staff in an appropriate response to students in distress.
Refer to the following links for sample protocol and resource page templates. Note that the Green Folder “Compassion” and “Indicator” pages are the “outside” of the folder, and the protocol and resource pages are the three “inside” sheets for each specific school site.
